2nd Career

OVERCOMING FEAR

Overcoming fear

Overcoming fear

I am sure you are wondering why I would talk about ‘overcoming fear’.  If you are not experiencing fear already, you will and it is an emotion that will come and taunt you time and time again, as you are on this path of looking for your second career in life.

Let me give you the definition of FEAR: False Evidence Appearing Real!  So, whatever your mind is telling you at this time, it is baseless, unverified, unproven, incorrect, unfounded and has no basis of fact.

Yes, I know and understand  about fear of the unknown but let me reassure you that you are not the only person in this situation right now and there are plenty other people like you, looking to make a second career in their lives in their 40s and beyond.

Don’t ignore your fear either, instead own it and conquer it.  What I mean by that is, say to yourself, ‘yes I am afraid of what the future holds for me but I am still going to do what I need to do, one step at a time and one day at a time’.   Keep repeating this to yourself  and be honest about your feelings.

Before starting my blogs, I was frightened, just paralysed about unleashing my inner talent of writing and starting.  After a while, I did what I told you to do above, spoke to myself and started one step at a time and now, I wonder why I allowed fear to stop me in my tracks and stop me from doing what I enjoy, putting my thoughts down.

Once you have taken that brave step to do what you want to do, fear will no longer have any hold over you.  What is fear anyway?.  It is some negative part of our mind, telling you lies and wanting to hold you back.  You as a person are bigger than your fear.  Fear has not legal right to live in you and lie to you.  So be bold, be strong (inner strength), unleash your inner power and be confident in what you want to do and know how to do.

Once you have taken that brave step of facing your fear and moving forward, you will see that fear starts to diminish little by little from inside you.  It will become a thing of no consequence and eventually a thing of the past.

Don’t respond to fear, respond to hope in a new beginning.
