THE BEST WAY TO PREDICT THE FUTURE IS TO CREATE IT YOURSELF

I saw this quote by Dr P Diamandis and totally loved it.  He is an international pioneer in the fields of innovation, incentive competitions and commercial space. In 2014 he was named one of “The World’s 50 Greatest Leaders” – by Fortune Magazine.

There is no more ‘job for life’ and a lot of companies are laying people off or making people redundant.  Where do you start from, after you have spent ten, 20 or 30 years with a company and they let you go?  Here you are in your forties and still very intelligent, smart at what you do and know best and have a lot to give.  Where do you go and how do you go about it?

That is where the quote – The best way to predict the future is to create it yourself.’ comes in handy.

We are at a time where people are redefining themselves.  Its a new year and so you can create a new you, job wise.

What have you always loved to do but never had time to give to it as you would have liked?  Well, this is your time and your moment to dig deep into yourself and bring out the best in you.  You owe it to yourself to do some soul searching about your next move in terms of a career.

What are you good at?  What do you love doing?  What new job would you like to do, that will suit you?  While you are answering these questions?  Can you identify a problem?  That is where the ‘creating your future’ comes into being.  Can you also offer a solution to that problem?  If you have answered in the affirmative, you are on your way to creating the future you want.

We are at an age, where people are looking for something new, something that is bespoke and something that is fresh.  If what you want is to job hunt, employers want their employees to be flexible and to be multi-skilled.  What are you bringing to the interview table, that you can offer you new manager?

If you have decided to start something on your own, what would you like to start doing?  Remember how the company Apple started, with three friends?  We have had the traditional taxi company for so long and now we have Uber that is changing the face of how to move from A to B.  Someone thought about doing something different.

Take for example orange juice sold in the supermarket, could you offer to sell it with a twist?  Making yours fresh, daily and supplying it to the store or restaurants or hotels?  Or do you have a recipe for a daily freshly made soup that is nice and tasty?  Like I said, if you want to start on your own, you have to be innovative and come up with ideas, that will make what you want to offer, slightly different and it is that difference that will count for you.

Whatever your next step is, you have a lot to offer the world.  Don’t give up on those lost dreams, you can bring them back to life.

Remember the best way to predict the future is to create it yourself.
